How to start an AI club
Six steps from idea to a club people find and come back to. You can do steps one through four this afternoon.
Create your club pagePick one format and one promise
Build night, paper club, beginner workshop, or tools show-and-tell. A single clear promise ("bring a project, leave with feedback") is what makes people come back. Mixed formats blur into nothing.
Choose in person, online, or hybrid
In person needs a room for 10–25 people: a coworking space, library room, or a company that will host for the exposure. Online needs a video link and a shared doc. Hybrid is the hardest to run well; start with one.
Set a cadence you can keep
Monthly is sustainable for one organizer; weekly needs two. Same day, same time, same place. Consistency is the growth strategy for the first six months.
Publish your club page
Create your club on AI Clubs: name, city or online, up to three topics, a one-line tagline. It goes live on your city and topic pages immediately. Add your first event with a date.
Run the first three sessions for whoever shows up
Three people is a club. Ask each attendee what they want next time and do that. Post a two-line recap after each session where your members already are (Discord, LinkedIn, X).
Add the tools you already use
Link your Discord, Meetup or website from the club page. AI Clubs is where people discover you; you do not have to move anything to list here.

Starting a club: questions
- Does starting a club cost anything?
- Starter is $35 a month and includes a public club page, a directory listing on your city and topic pages, unlimited events and up to 25 members.
- Do I need to be an AI expert?
- No. The most durable clubs are run by curious organizers, not experts. Your job is to hold the space and keep the cadence; members bring the expertise.
- Can I list a club that already exists on Meetup or Discord?
- Yes, and most organizers do exactly that. List here for discovery and keep running the club on the tools you already use.
- What if my city is not in the list?
- Choose the nearest city for now and mention your town in the description. You can also run the club as online or hybrid.
- Can students or schools start a club?
- AI Clubs is for adults (18+) today. University clubs run by students over 18 are welcome under the Student AI Clubs topic. K-12 programs are on the roadmap.
